Camera Systems

A camera system is measured by the area it covers, not by the number of cameras. Eight well-placed cameras are worth more than twenty badly placed ones. That is why every project starts with a site survey: entry and exit points, blind spots, lighting conditions and existing cabling are mapped out.

How cameras are selected

Field of view. A wide-angle lens covers a large area but cannot resolve a face at distance; a narrow lens shows one point clearly. Narrow angles are used where identity must be readable — tills, entrance doors — and wide angles for general surveillance such as corridors and warehouses.

Resolution. Higher is not always better: it increases disk consumption and network load. Reading plates or faces requires high resolution; general surveillance is fine at a medium level.

Night vision. Infrared-illuminated cameras produce black-and-white images in darkness. If colour night vision is required, low-light sensor models are planned together with ambient lighting.

Environment. Outdoors, the IP rating, temperature range and impact resistance matter; in dusty or humid production areas, protective housings are also considered.

Recording and retention

Retention time is the most frequently overlooked item. Whether footage is kept for 15 or 30 days determines — together with resolution, frame rate and camera count — the disk space required. Adding disks later is both costly and disruptive; sizing correctly from the start is cheaper. Motion-triggered recording instead of continuous recording noticeably reduces the storage needed.

IP systems are built on NVR and PoE switch infrastructure, analogue systems on DVR and coaxial cabling. Where analogue cabling already exists, a hybrid solution allows a move to IP cameras without rewiring.

Remote viewing

Mobile app and web access are configured. User rights can be defined individually: who may see which camera, and who may download recordings. Training on accessing recordings and defining users is part of the installation.

After installation

Periodic maintenance covers lens cleaning, image quality checks, disk health scans, recording continuity tests and software updates. We attend on site in case of failure.
